Cross-cultural panel on: 1) the African Diaspora in Latin America, and African-American, Latino, and Black Latino identities within the US. More specifically, we are interested in topics related to the 'invisibility' of these histories and experiences, and the different and similar ways in which both communities have been racialized and perceived, both in Latin America and the US. 2) historical alliances made between African-American and Latina/o communities, with a focus on the Civil Rights Movement; and 3) contemporary issues both of our communities face that demand collective action.
